Lisa Harrison, Hagan Ace Hardware Garden Center Director, is here with your top five ‘Hot Tips’ for the Coolest Summertime lawn and garden.
Make sure you water before 10am or after 4pm.
Mulching beds keeps moisture around the plants root system.
Prevent over-head watering, especially on flowers. This will wilt the foliage and flowers and ‘fry’ the plant.
Add soil to container gardens to make sure the root system is fully covered and doesn’t get dehydrated. Purslane, Sedum, Cactus and Succulents are popular choices for container gardens as they can withstand the heat because they retain water in their stems.
Blue My Mind and Lantana are perennials and considered sturdy plants. Salvias and Daisies will seed themselves and keep reproducing. Use sharpened mower blades when cutting the grass and don’t mow the grass too short, this will weaken the root system and will dehydrate and kill the grass.
